US: Muslim terrorist arrested for planning Hezbollah massacre in New York
A Muslim terrorist has been arrested and is facing terrorism charges – including planning mass murder in New York City and other cities for Hezbollah.
The 42-year-old Muslim terrorist identified as Alexei Saab was trained by the Hezbollah terror group in bomb-making and intelligence-gathering which he used to scout potential targets in New York, Boston, Washington, and Istanbul.
According to court documents, Saab also goes by the name “Ali Hassan Saab” and is a naturalized US citizen since 2008, who came from Lebanon in 2000. He was a Hezbollah terrorist since 1996.
“Saab surveilled dozens of locations in New York City-including the United Nations headquarters, the Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, the Empire State Building, and local airports, tunnels, and bridges-and provided detailed information on these locations,” federal officials said in a statement Thursday.
Saab reported to Hezbollah details of what the targets were constructed of, how close in proximity one could get, and weaknesses or “soft spots” the terror group could exploit in a potential massacre.
The terrorist sent all the information to Hezbollah’s External Terrorist Operations Component – which is also known as the Islamic Jihad Organization by the US.
Aside from his scouting of locations, the Muslim terrorist also attempted to murder a man he believed to be an Israeli spy, according to prosecutors. He pulled a gun on a man at close range and tried to fire twice, but the weapon malfunctioned.
“I would like to thank the efforts of the investigators and our Counter-Terrorism law enforcement partners who worked tirelessly to assemble the case that prevents this individual from caring out his plans,” NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill said in the statement.
“This case sends a clear message of deterrence to all those who plot to promote violence here in the U.S. and abroad.”
Though the complaint was just unveiled Thursday, law enforcement executed search warrants on Saab’s email accounts in April 2018 and began interviewing him as far back as March 2019.
