Israeli fighter jets bomb Hamas terror targets in response to rockets launched at southern Israel
Israeli fighter jets carried out retaliatory strikes targeting Hamas terror infrastructure in Gaza after at least five rockets were launched by Muslim terrorists towards southern Israel.
The IDF confirmed Israel struck 15 terror targets in Gaza tonight, including a number of targets on a military site for weapons production, a number of targets in a military compound of the Hamas naval force and a terror tunnel belonging to the Hamas terror group.
The attack was carried out in response to rocket fire launched from Gaza into Israeli territory earlier tonight.
“The IDF will continue to oppose attempts to harm Israeli civilians and considers the Hamas terror organization responsible for what is happening in and out of the Gaza Strip”, the IDF said in a statement.
CCTV footage from an Israeli community near the Gaza border captured some of the retaliatory strikes.
According to Arab reports, the IDF targeted Hamas infrastructure in central Gaza, Deir al-Balah area and Khan Yunis.
Intense Israeli jet activity reported over Gaza, possibly in preparation for additional attacks.
PM Netanyahu is currently holding security consultations with IDF chief of staff Aviv Kochavi and other members of the defense establishment.
At least five rockets were launched from Gaza into the cities of Ashdod and Ashkelon while PM Netanyahu and Avigdor Liberman were in the middle of campaign speeches in Ashdod.
Two of the rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome Missile defense system.
In anticipation of a possible escalation, public bomb shelters were opened and police and MDA emergency services in southern Israel have raised the alert level.
Gaza media outlets reported that Hamas evacuated its terror posts ahead of retaliatory strikes, while Muslim terror fans took to the streets to celebrate the rocket attack that forced PM Netanyahu to take shelter.
