Israel is willing to finance flights for emigrating Gazans but no country agreed to take them in
Israel is actively encouraging the emigration of Gazans, a senior Israeli official said on Monday. Israel is even checking if other countries, including in the Middle East, are willing to absorb them.
The official noted that more than 35,000 Gazans left the area last year.
“That’s a pretty high number,” he added.
According to the official, Israel is even willing to finance flights and allow Gazans to use an Israeli airport close to Gaza for those who are interested in leaving. European and Middle Eastern countries had been approached by Israel to accept Gazans.
So far, no country has agreed to absorb them, though.
The official said the program has been discussed in the security cabinet several times and that the National Security Council had been spearheading the effort, with Netanyahu’s blessing.
