Watch – Iran releases footage of masked IRGC terrorists seizing British tanker
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has released a video showing the moment its masked terrorists captured the British-flagged tanker Stena Impero and kidnapped 23 crew members.
The video shows the moment of the attack when IRGC speedboats surrounded the vessel, which was apparently steaming ahead at full speed. The naval force was backed by a military helicopter, which deployed an assault team on the tanker’s deck.
The vessel was ultimately stopped and subsequently escorted to shore.
The tanker is detained at Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas. The crew of 23, consisting of 18 Indian nationals, while the rest are from Russia, Latvia, and the Philippines, remain on board the vessel.
Today British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said Iran’s action “raises very serious questions about the security of British shipping and indeed international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.”
Speaking after a meeting of the Government’s emergency committee Cobra, Hunt said the vessel was seized in Omani waters in “clear contravention of international law”.
Earlier this week, Iran seized a foreign tanker and kidnapped 12 crew members accused of “smuggling oil in the Persian Gulf”. The Panamanian-flagged oil tanker MT Riah stopped transmitting its location overnight on Sunday near Qeshm Island, which has a Revolutionary Guard terror group base on it.
Iran recently started enriching uranium beyond a limit established in a 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers, a deal from which Trump withdrew. Trump has since intensified economic sanctions on Tehran, and tensions have escalated.
