US warship shot down and destroyed Iranian drone near Strait of Hormuz
BREAKING: President Donald Trump said the U.S. shot down and “immediately destroyed” an Iranian drone that approached the USS Boxer near the Strait of Hormuz.
The drone “was threatening the safety of the ship and the ship’s crew,” Trump said at the White House on Thursday.
President Trump said he’s calling “on other nations to protect their ships as they go through the Strait.”
According to US defense officials, the drone was brought down by USS Boxer’s electronic warfare jamming system.
Earlier today, Iran’s state TV reported that the Revolutionary Guards terror group has seized a foreign tanker and kidnapped 12 crew members accused of smuggling oil in the Persian Gulf, as tensions between the Islamic regime and the West continue to escalate.
The US is preparing to send 500 troops to a remote base east of the Saudi capital Riyadh to front up to the growing Iran threat, CNN reported last night citing two US defense officials.
Iran recently started enriching uranium beyond a limit established in a 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers, a deal from which Trump withdrew. Trump has since intensified economic sanctions on Tehran, and tensions have escalated.
