Netanyahu praises the UK for seizing Iranian tanker – Rouhani: Britain will face ‘consequences’
Prime Minister Netanyahu praised the UK for stopping Iran illegally shipping oil to Assad’s murderous regime in Syria.
“What Britain did in interdicting the ship laden with Iranian oil bound for Syria — that was important!”, Netanyahu said.
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani threatened on Wednesday the UK with “grave consequences” for seizing their tanker.
“You (Britain) are the initiator of insecurity and you will realize the consequences later,” Rouhani was quoted by Tasnim as saying after a cabinet meeting.
British Royal Marines seized an Iranian supertanker carrying oil to Syria off the coast of Gibraltar, a dramatic step that drew Tehran’s fury.
Tehran responded by summoning Britain’s ambassador to its foreign ministry to explain what it described as an “illegal seizure”, which had been earlier described by the UK as enforcing the EU’s sanctions regime against Syria.
“If Britain does not release the Iranian oil tanker, it is the (Iranian) authorities duty to seize a British oil tanker,” a senior commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps terror group threatened last week.
PM Netanyahu on Sunday addressed the Iranian announcement regarding enrichment of uranium beyond the limit set by the nuclear deal. Iran’s decision is a “very dangerous step.” Netanyahu said.
“Iran has violated its solemn promise under the U.N. Security Council not to enrich uranium beyond a certain level,” Netanyahu said.
“I call on my friends, the heads of France, Britain, and Germany – you signed this deal and you said that as soon as they take this step, severe sanctions will be imposed – that was the Security Council resolution. Where are you?”
“The enrichment of uranium is made for one reason and one reason only – it’s for the creation of atomic bombs,” Netanyahu added.
