Bahrain orders its citizens to leave Iran and Iraq ‘???????????’ amid US-Iran tensions
US-allied Bahrain warned its citizens on Saturday against travel to Iraq and Iran and asked those already there to return “immediately” for their safety.
The Bahrain foreign ministry cited, “unstable regional circumstances, dangerous developments, and potential threats”.
American multinational oil and gas corporation Exxon Mobil has evacuated all of its foreign staff, around 60 people, from Iraq’s West Qurna 1 oilfield and is flying them out to Dubai, a senior Iraqi official and other sources told Reuters on Saturday.
The order relayed Saturday by U.S. diplomats in Kuwait and the UAE said that all commercial aircraft flying over the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman needed to be aware of “heightened military activities and increased political tension.”
The US evacuated non-essential embassy staff from Iraq on Wednesday over what it called a ‘credible threat’ by Iran or Iranian proxies. In addition, Britain has raised the threat level to troops and diplomats in Iraq because of a ‘heightened security risk’ from Iran.
