Watch: Shalva Band – 8 musicians with disabilities and ‘A Million Dreams’
Shalva Band performed the song A Million Dreams as an interval act at the Second Semi-Final of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest.
The Shalva Band were favorites to represent Israel at Eurovision but pulled out when the dress rehearsal was scheduled for Friday night – at the start of Shabbat.
The group of eight musicians, who all have disabilities including Down syndrome, Autism, and various physical handicaps, had been voted through on a national TV show.
Despite opting out of Eurovision so as not to desecrate the Shabbat, the Shalva Band performed ‘A Million Dreams’ from The Greatest Showman, yesterday during the 2nd Eurovision semi-final.
Those watching found themselves tearing up and took to Twitter to comment on the emotional performance:
One viewer wrote: “I’ve got tears in my eyes this is so sweet and purely magical #DareToDream #Eurovision.”
Another said: “beautiful, majestic, amazing, wonderful, 10/10, the true winners of tonight #eurovision.”
“F**k the entire rest of the entries, THIS is what I want to watch. This has given me chills. #MillionDreams #Eurovision,” tweeted a third.
“Well this is a warm hug of a #Eurovision moment isn’t it?” remarked a fourth.
A fifth added: “This interval act though #Eurovision Shalva band are amazing, and a standing ovation is what they deserve! I can’t stop crying.”
