Pakistan: Armed Muslim terrorists storm 5-star hotel; operation underway
At least four armed Muslim terrorists have attacked a five-star hotel in Gwadar in Pakistan’s Balochistan province.
Local media outlets are reporting that armed terrorists stormed the exclusive Pearl Continental and cite police sources as saying that ‘the firing is ongoing’.
Balochistan Home Minister Ziaullah Langove said there appeared to be casualties but there were no immediate details.
“Up to four armed men entered the Pearl Continental hotel in Gwadar and opened fire,” Langu told AFP by telephone, adding that the “majority” of guests had been evacuated and security forces were engaging the terrorists.
One official said that most guests had been evacuated but the terrorists are thought to have reached the first floor of the hotel.
Officers are also quoted as saying that ‘no foreigners’ are believed to be inside the hotel which sits on the Koh-e-Batil Hill.
The Pearl Continental is said to be frequented by foreign delegations, businessmen, and tourists visiting the port city.
No terror group has claimed responsibility so far, but the terror attack comes weeks after 14 people, including 11 military servicemen, were murdered in another terror attack in Gwadar.
