Instagram accounts of Iran’s IRGC heads banned after US designates it as a terror group
The Instagram accounts of at least three commanders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including Qasem Soleimani, who have about 900,000 followers, have been blocked on Tuesday, only a day after the US officially designated it as a foreign terror group.
This marked the first time ever that the United States has named part of a foreign government a terrorist organization.
Muslim terrorist Qasem Soleimani has been at the helm of the IRGC’s Quds Force — a division mainly responsible for extraterritorial military, clandestine operations and terror attacks– since 1998.
The IRGC is in charge of Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs and is also involved with the country’s banking and shipping industries.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the move is part of an effort to put “maximum pressure” on Iran to end its support for terrorist plots and terror activity that destabilizes the Middle East.
