No Joke: Assad regime downed Israeli moon mission, claims Syrian ex-lawmaker
A former Syrian lawmaker claims that the Assad regime derailed an attempt by Israel on Thursday to land a spacecraft on the moon.
Ahmad Shalash, who is a staunch supporter of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, made the hilarious claim on social media after Israeli spacecraft Beresheet failed to land on the moon as planned.
“An Israeli spacecraft has crashed during landing on the moon. We have previously said that the operations of Syria’s intelligence service would surprise everyone and that the arenas for conflict are open,” Shalash said.
“I will not say any more or be more explicit,” he added.
As Beresheet approached the moon, SpaceIL lost contact with the spacecraft several times.
The scientists kept hope as the connection was restored, but just minutes before the spacecraft was supposed to touch down, contact was lost once again and it crashed on the moon.
“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. What Israel did was a major accomplishment, which will lead to eventual success, ” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said shortly after the crash.
