BREAKING: Police are responding to an incident on board a plane at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

Unconfirmed reports of a possible hijacking/hostage situation on an airplane.

According to reports, the pilot pressed the emergency button (500), which is used in case of hijacking or an attack. Passengers were in the middle of boarding.

The situation is onboard Air Europa flight UX1094.

Parts of Schiphol Airport are on lockdown. Heavily armed special units are at the scene. At least two helicopters were seen above the airport. Reports of an F-16 warplane as well.

A large scale security alert has been issued both at Schiphol Airport and at a number of transportation hubs in the city.

UPDATE: Situation at Schiphol has ended. According to communication channels at the airport, passengers and crew were evacuated from the plane, all safe. The Hijacking Alert was triggered by mistake.
