Albania expels 2 Iranian diplomats over thwarted plot to murder Israelis at soccer game

BREAKING: Albania says it has expelled two Iranian diplomats for “illegal activities that threaten the country’s security”.

The two diplomats were expelled for “violating their diplomatic status,” a spokesman from the Foreign Ministry said.

The spokesman said the move followed talks with other countries, including Israel.

The Iranians are suspected of terror activities related to a World Cup match between Albania and Israel two years ago. The match was relocated after four Muslim terrorists were arrested planning a terror attack against the Israel national team.

About 20 Muslim terrorists were arrested in Albania and Kosovo following that match.

The US National Security Adviser, John Bolton, has expressed his gratitude to the Albanian people and Prime Minister Edi Rama for their resistance against terrorism:

“Prime Minister Edi Rama of Albania just expelled the Iranian ambassador, signaling to Iran’s leaders that their support for terrorism will not be tolerated. We stand with PM Rama and the Albanian people as they stand up to Iran’s reckless behavior in Europe and across the globe”, Bolton wrote on Twitter.

The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeted: “I commend PM Edi Rama’s expulsion of two Iranian agents who plotted terrorist attacks in Albania. European nations have thwarted three Iranian plots this year alone. The world must stand together to sanction Iran’s regime until it changes its destructive behavior”.

The Mossad, Israel’s National Intelligence Agency, helped Denmark foil an Iranian plot to assassinate an opposition leader, Israeli media last October.

Earlier in October, the French intelligence concluded, without any doubt, that Iran’s intelligence ministry, which is controlled by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ordered a foiled terror attack on an exiled Iranian opposition group’s rally near Paris in June.
