Afghanistan: American, Romanian soldier killed in car bomb attack near US Embassy in Kabul

At least 10 people, including an American and a Romanian soldier, have been murdered and 40 others injured after a car bomb rocked a high-security zone east of the capital of Afghanistan, which houses the US Embassy and other diplomatic missions.

The car bomb exploded near a security checkpoint close to embassies and government buildings.

Surveillance footage of the attack, which occurred at about 10:10am local time, showed a grey minivan explode just after it had cut in front of a line of white SUVs waiting to make a right turn right onto a street.

One nearby pedestrian can be seen turning and trying to run away as the minivan crashed through a barrier just before the blast.

Two of the victims were identified as members of the Nato-led mission in the country, Resolute Support – one from Romania, the other from the US.

Taliban terrorists claimed responsibility for the terror attack.

On Monday, a truck bomb exploded close to compound housing foreigners killing at least 16 people and injuring more than 100, an attack that was also claimed by the Taliban.

Kabul has been gripped by a surge in deadly terrorism even after the US and the Taliban reached an agreement “in principle” that would see the Pentagon pull thousands of troops from Afghanistan in return for various Taliban security promises.
