This year, President Reuven Rivlin will head the March of the Living between the Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration and death camps in Poland.
Every year for the past 30 years, thousands of people from around the world have come together in Poland for the March of the Living to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day.
This year, 12,000 participants are making the historic 3.2 kilometer march with Holocaust survivors from Auschwitz to Birkenau in memory of the millions who perished in the Holocaust and proclaim, “Never again.”
Major-General Yoav Mordechai, the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, said on Thursday that the March of the Living – in which he will participate this afternoon -is a demonstration of Jewish power.
He said, “The mixing of officers with representatives of bereaved families and Holocaust survivors is a demonstration of power that the IDF will never allow the events of the Holocaust to repeat themselves.”
Also marching will be Holocaust survivor Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau and all the heads of the security branches: Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot of the Israel Defense Forces, Police Commissioner Roni Alsheikh, Director Yossi Cohen of the Mossad intelligence agency and Shin Bet Israel Security Agency chief Nadav Argaman, as well as Polish President Andrzej Duda.
