IDF, Shin Bet and Israel Police’s special forces Yamam unit operated in the Jenin area on Saturday to capture Ahmad Nassar Jarar, the Muslim terrorist who led the Hamas cell which murdered Rabbi Raziel Shevah on January 9.
Jarar is the only member of the cell who had not yet been captured by Israeli security forces.
Intelligence information pointed to a number of possible locations where Jarar might be hiding, but he himself was not captured. However, Jarar’s wife and father-in-law were arrested and taken for interrogation.
On Saturday morning, IDF forces encircled and raided a house in Burqin. According to Arab sources, four terrorists were arrested during the raid on Burqin, two of them members of the Jarrar clan of Muslim terrorists.
On Saturday afternoon, IDF forces shot and eliminated a Muslim teen-terrorist in violent riots during the counter-terrorism operation.
A Reuters witness said about 200 Muslim terrorists were throwing rocks at Israeli military vehicles when a shot was heard, adding that a wounded person was then carried to a car.
The IDF Spokesman’s unit said it was checking the report.
Rabbi Raziel Shevah was murdered in early January in a drive-by shooting terror attack near Havat Gilad, where he resided.
After the murder, IDF troops spent over 12 hours in Jenin in search of Jarrar. During operations in the city, two fighters from the Border Police’s counter-terrorism unit Yamam were wounded in a firefight that resulted in the elimination of another terrorist, Ahmad Ismail Jarrar, who it was later transpired was not the head of the terror cell.
After initially believing the cell leader was killed in the house demolition and buried under the rubble, the IDF revised its conclusions after the Arabs did not find a body inside the building.
Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said that the terrorist responsible for Rabbi Raziel Shevah’s murder “should know he is currently living the life of a fleeing dog. He is living on borrowed time.”
Over the past two weeks, Israeli security forces continued carrying out covert and overt operations to locate the terrorist, which included searching through homes and detaining terrorists with ties to him for questioning.
