A man opened fire on passersby in the central Italian city of Macerata on Saturday, injuring at least six African migrants in a shooting revenge for the murder of an 18-year-old girl earlier this week.
The website of newspaper Corriere della Sera said a man fired from a car window at two young African migrants shortly after 11 a.m. (5.00 a.m ET) Saturday, injuring one of them. A short while later another migrant and an African woman were shot.
It was not clear how serious were their injuries.
Police caught the two attackers after blocking their car in. The two fled the vehicle, leaving the gun behind, but were caught by officers chasing on foot.
The shootings happened just days after the body of an 18-year-old Italian girl was discovered cut up and hidden in two suitcases.
A 29-year-old Nigerian migrant drug dealer identified as Innocent Oseghale, was arrested earlier this week by Italian Carabinieri after the body of 18-year-old Pamela Mastropietro was found raped, dismembered and dumped on a street with parts of her body stuffed in suitcases.
The attacker behind the shooting revenge has been identified as Luca Traini, 28, allegedly gave a Nazi salute and did not resist as he was arrested.
Traini was a Northern League candidate for the 2017 administrative elections in Corridonia. He has campaigned for the ‘control of non EU migrants’.
‘He drove around in his car and when he saw any coloured people he shot them,’ said Marcello Mancini, a Macerata resident.
