A Muslim in Vermont has used a machete to attack a woman in her 70s as she delivered meals to a motel being used as emergency housing for the homeless.
32-year-old Burlington resident Abukar Ibrahim attacked a 73-year-old Meals on Wheels volunteer who was dropping off meals at Harbor Place, which serves as a temporary emergency housing facility. The attack happened Friday in Shelburne.
The woman was treated and released from UVM Medical Center, after sustaining multiple injuries and a significant wound to her leg, according to police.
Officials say they were called just after 10 a.m. Friday to Harbor Place on Shelburne Rd, for a report of a man with a knife smashing car windows.
When officers arrived, the Muslim attacker barricaded himself in a room, and was reportedly taunting police. After two and a half hours, he surrendered, and was taken into custody, according to police. Tactical assistance was provided by officers from Essex, Milton and Burlington.
