Jewish woman stabbed in Montreal

A 27-year-old jewish woman is in stable condition after being attacked by a man with a sharp-edged weapon on Monkland Avenue near Girouard Avenue in Montreal’s Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood.

Montreal police say the woman was walking alone around 12:45 a.m. when the incident occurred.

Officers arrived on the scene to find her suffering from upper body injuries.

She was taken to hospital in critical condition. Her condition has been upgraded to stable and her life is no longer considered in danger.

Police say her attacker fled the scene.  Officers apprehended a 25-year-old suspect nearby with the help of a police dog team.

Police spokesman Benoit Boiselle said investigators are now on the scene and are looking at all possible motives, including whether the victim knew her assailant.

The woman is a member of Canada’s Jewish community and is married to an Israeli citizen. Members of the community have asked for prayers on behalf of the victim.
