18 children and teachers killed in Jordan’s Dead Sea flooding – Elite IDF troops join rescue efforts

At least 18 people, most of them children, were killed after flash floods engulfed a spot near Jordan’s Dead Sea on Thursday were 37 children and 7 teachers were on an outing.

A further 22 people were injured in the incident.

According to a witness, the group had been on a bus heading towards a resort area when the floodwaters swept them into a valley.

Jordanian prime minister Omar Razzaz is on the scene to oversee the rescue mission and the IDF has sent helicopters and elite search and rescue troops to help Jordanian emergency services.

“Neither bad weather nor compassion between friends knows borders: upon Jordanian request, elite IDF search and rescue troops have been scrambled to assist in searches for missing Jordanian children near the Dead Sea”, the IDF Spokesperson twitted.
